405 Million fine to Instagram
405 Million fine to Instagram
This time the fine for breaching the European Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has been spectacular: 405 million euros to Instagram.
Following an investigation initiated in September 2020, the Irish Data Protection Commission has imposed this multimillion-dollar penalty on Instagram, owned by Meta like Facebook, for allowing teenagers between 13 and 17 years old to open commercial accounts on its social network that, by default, were public, exposing the content published by the same, coupled with the fact that in some occasions, the operation of such accounts required the unrestricted publication to all users of the phone numbers and emails of minors.
The full decision will be made public in the coming days, so we will have to wait to know in detail the arguments of the Irish authority in this media decision.
