70,000 euros penalty to BBVA
70,000 penalty to BBVA
Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria S.A. (BBVA) has been fined 70,000 euros by the Spanish Data Protection Agency(AEPD) because a customer was asked for a copy of his ID card to provide him with the contact details of a bank branch, without there being any legal basis to support the need to identify himself in order to obtain this information.
The AEPD considered in its Resolution PS/00170/2022 that there was a violation of Article 5.1.c) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), for which it imposed a penalty of 70,000 euros.
BBVA acknowledged its responsibility in the facts, and therefore paid the fine voluntarily, the final amount being 42,000 euros.
