The social network LinkedIn has been fined 310 million euros by the Irish Data Protection Authority(DPC).
This hefty fine is due to the processing of personal data of LinkedIn users without their consent and for the purpose of analyzing their behavior and adjusting their advertising. the purpose of analyzing their behavior and adjusting the advertising directed to them.
Therefore, the DPC argued that the processing had no legal basis, considering this as a serious violation of the provisions of the GDPR.
This new sanction demonstrates how important it is to obtain the prior consent of data subjects to process their personal data, reminding data controllers that this general rule is always an obligation, never an option (except for the exceptions established in the regulation) and that the risk of sanction for non-compliance is real.
Recently, it has released an update to its Privacy Policy in which it has unveiled some changes in reference to its generative AI.
