Naturgy sanctioned by the AEPD with 80,000 euros

Naturgy Energy Group S.A. was sanctioned with 80,000 euros by the AEPD because the company made a change in the email address of a customer by telephone, when the contract holder never authorized the change, as there was identity theft.

The Agency acknowledged that there were breaches of Articles 5.1 f) and 32 of the GDPR, as the confidentiality of the customer’s personal data was breached, as well as the security measures implemented by Naturgy, as these were not sufficient to prevent such events.

After Naturgy Energy Group S.A. acknowledged its responsibility for the facts, the sanctioning process was finalized through voluntary payment PS/00100/2022, and the final amount of the sanction was 48,000 euros.
