ICT strategies for companies

ICT strategies for your company

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, our country has undergone a radical change in technological terms, as it is a palpable fact that teleworking, online shopping, videoconferencing, online training, among other activities, have become increasingly common in our lives.

All this has increased the vulnerability of systems, with the risks of a possible loss of corporate information and personal data and this has resulted in a high recognition of cybersecurity and the distrust of consumers and users for being victims of cyber-attacks.

The future of ICT

In a few decades, almost the entire world’s population will be connected and with them billions of IoT devices, which will serve as vehicles for accessing the Internet. Therefore, the digitization of companies should be a strategic priority.

But before we know where we are going, let’s know where we are:

ObservaCiber has conducted an analysis in its latest publication on indicators of digital trust and cybersecurity, revealing the degree of confidence of Spaniards regarding the use of the Internet and reveals the impact this has on the Spanish business network, This is the summary:

ICT data of Spanish companies

The analysis shows relevant data, such as the following:

  • Half of the companies have defined an ICT security policy, but only 25% have reviewed it in the last 12 months.
  • 18% of companies have insurance with coverage for cyber-attacks or ICT security.
  • 21% of companies provide mandatory ICT security training. This figure places Spain at the bottom of the European countries in terms of measures to raise awareness and make workers more responsible.
  • 96.3% of companies use internal cybersecurity systems. The most commonly used measures are:
    • 97% keep software up to date
    • 91% have backups in a separate location
    • 81% perform network access control
    • 76% use authentication systems with strong passwords
    • 52% have protocols in place for cybersecurity incident analysis
    • 48% use a virtual private network or VPN
    • 43% perform ICT security tests
    • 43% use encryption techniques
    • 39% prepare ICT risk assessment
    • 25% based on user authentication through biometric elements

ICT data of the Spanish population

This information is relevant, from a business point of view, because it provides data on customers and users of our websites, for example, which allows us to evaluate weaknesses and threats in order to know our strengths and, above all, to establish our opportunities:

  • 28% of Spaniards suffered a cybersecurity incident in 2019
    • Fraudulent messages(phishing) is the most common incidence with 19.2%.
  • 66% of Spaniards know that cookies can be used to track their movements on the Internet.
  • Only 29% take some action to limit the use of cookies.
  • 48% read the privacy policy of websites before providing their personal data, and are therefore concerned about the processing of their personal data.
  • 37.9% have little or no confidence in the Internet and this has increased by 8.4 points in the last year.

The strategy to follow

The lack of confidence in the Internet is a reality and this has a direct consequence on the Internet activity of companies in Spain.

Therefore, if the study reveals that success will go through the benefits offered by digital transformation and that Spaniards are distrustful in the use of ICTs, it is understood as a need for business subsistence to anticipate to ensure that the digital solutions used are reliable, trustworthy and secure for customers and users.

Another key to success will be to evolve as fast as ICTs do, and therefore we are talking about a continuous evolution, since cybercrimes also evolve and data protection regulations change or adapt to new times, which will imply periodic changes in corporate security policies.

Looking for suppliers that provide web auditing services and that include Quality Seals to be inserted in it, will allow websites to be more reliable for users, but also for search engines, which will improve their natural positioning.

Having hired consultants / auditors for compliance with data protection regulations, will be another necessity for your organization in general and your website in particular, to convey the security that customers and users demand. In addition to avoid penalties, as this is a must for any business.
